This fiery red Kharita runner was woven by my aunt — a master Berber weaver from the Taznakht region of southern Morocco, high in the Anti-Atlas mountains. She learned this craft as a young girl, watching the women before her work their looms by hand, turning raw sheep's wool into living art. Every diamond, every star, every scattered motif floating across this deep crimson ground is a symbol she has carried her whole life.

In Berber tradition, a rug like this isn't just made — it's told. The word "Kharita" means "map," and if you look closely at the scattered geometric medallions — diamonds in navy, ivory, orange, olive green, and gold scattered freely across a bold red field — you begin to understand why. It reads like a landscape seen from above. Wild. Free. Intentional.

Flat-woven kilim technique on a traditional floor loom. 100% natural sheep wool — hand-spun and dyed. No synthetic fibres, no shortcuts. The rich red ground is the defining colour of Taznakht weaving, a region celebrated across Morocco for the depth and warmth of its textiles.
