Handmade Beni Ourain Rug Moroccan Wool Berber Carpet Boho Abstract Area Rug

This is a white and brown Beni Ourain rug, hand-knotted in our workshop in Morocco. The composition is soft, considered, and quietly graphic. A large warm camel-brown rectangle fills the upper portion of the rug, dense and earthy in tone, set within a wide ivory border on all sides. Below it, the white ground opens into a rhythm of thin black vertical stripes that ripple gently down the lower field and taper toward the fringe. The palette is gentle and completely natural, three tones that sit together with ease.
The color block form draws from the Amazigh tradition of dividing the rug field into distinct zones of meaning, each section carrying its own weight and character. The warm brown draws from the sun-baked earth and kilim-toned wool of the Atlas Mountain villages, a color that has long grounded the Berber visual palette. The black vertical stripes running through the white lower field are a quiet mark of the weaver, like furrows drawn across open earth, a motif found in Berber textiles throughout the Atlas region. Brown accent stitching runs along the seam, tying the color block to the body of the piece. Ivory hand-knotted fringe finishes both ends.
